Storybook Character Day!

Dr. Seuss' Birthday always kicks off Read Across America week.  To celebrate we had a special dress up day at Guy E. Rowe.

Since I was dressed like Pinkalicious we had yummy pink cupcakes.  Hopefully no one turned pink!

Dr. Seuss Day!

Monday, March 2 was Dr. Seuss' Birthday.  To celebrate this famous author we made hats like the Cat in the Hat, listened to Green Eggs and Ham, and then got to eat green eggs and ham.  YUM! 

Dr. Seuss is famous for his silly rhyming stories.  If you have some at home, get them out and revisit them.  You might be surprised...maybe your children can read them to you!

100th Day Fun

Friday, February 13th was the 100th Day of School!  We had a great day!  Our four stations included 1.  100 day crown.  2.  100 fruit loop necklace.  3.  100 piece puzzle.  4.  Build with 100 cups.

The Snowy Day

This week our whole class reading has focused on the book The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.  It is a classic story about a boy enjoying his day in the snow.  On Monday I read the story but did not show all of the pictures.  Boys and girls visualized what those pictures would look like and drew what they imagined.  On Tuesday we learned that sometimes the long o sound is made by the letters "ow" like in the word snow.  On Wednesday we made a connection with Peter.  "Peter likes to ______ in the snow.  I like to ______ in the snow."  On Thursday we will learn about inferring...how readers use clues in the story to help them understand what is happening.  Peter had put a snow ball in his pocket.  We will write about what happened to it.  On Friday we will write our opinion of winter weather...do we like it snowy or sunny best?!
