Our first field trip of the year was a huge success. This was the first time that the Kindergarten team has taken a trip to Pineland Farms. We loved it. Our students started the day by getting some exercise while playing Squirrels and Acorns, a fun tag game. Then we visited four different stations.
First our group went to Pumpkin Smash. We learned about the parts of the pumpkin...including the skin, pulp, and seeds. In small groups we counted seeds. Our class found 401 seeds.
Then we learned about different types of seeds. First we saw lettuce, beet, pumpkin, corn and bean seeds. Then we had to use our listening ears to figure out which can had which seeds. We couldn't see them...we just had to listen to them shake.
Next we searched for seeds in the garden. Boys and girls were amazed at how many we could find.
Finally...one of the best parts...we got to pick out a small pumpkin to take home. What a fantastic day.
